Monarch Mountain at the Crest on US50/Monarch Pass crests the Continental Divide and spans two National Forests: the Pike-San Isabel National Forest on the east side of the Divide, and the Grand Mesa-Gunnison-Uncompahgre National Forest on the west side. It sits on the boundary between Chaffee and Gunnison Counties. For location and directions, click here.

The 3,100 mile long Continental Divide Trail (CDT), which follows the Rocky Mountains from Canada to Mexico, goes through Colorado and passes right by Monarch Mountain at the Crest.

The Colorado Trail (CT) is a 567 mile trail that connects Denver to Durango. It, too, passes right by Monarch Mountain at the Crest as it follows the same path as the CDT through this section of trail.

Mountain bikers often begin their trek of the Monarch Crest trail from the parking lot of Monarch Mountain at the Crest, making it an easy meeting spot and starting point for the advanced, downhill ride ahead.
